Vile capitalism, as experienced by the girly shoe shopper

Shoesies ChooseloveI got a cute little shoebox package in the mail today... eeeee! They're my lovely new Fluevogs, which I've been squeaking and squawking about for the past 2 weeks, and they fit! And they're mine! Whee! I was pretty excited about them, I got them from ebay for about $100 (including postage), and they're probably worth about $300. Yummm. I love bargains. The bottom of the shoe has this funky thing which says To Love or To Hate, The Choice is Yours... and then on the heel 'choose love'. *smiles gleefully* I can hardly think of anything cuter to put on my feet. Besides a labrador puppy, perhaps. So yah, that's me getting all girly and materialistic. Shame on me, shame... because something that's this much fun *must* be bad. Hehehe.

Greenjumperalmostdone_2 I've actually been wielding the pointy sticks with a bit more direction and intention lately, and I'm almost finished the green jumper, which is looking gorrrrrgeous darlings. Mmm. Pity I totally missed winter with this one. My only regret is that the fluevogs exactly the same as my purple ones but in this same green were snapped up by someone else. *sigh*... being a girly girl is *so* tough. I might give it up, real soon. Yeah.

Eggies!

Eggienumberone Phoenix laid her first egg of the season last night!

Now, since they're not fertilised, I don't like her sitting on the eggies constantly like she did last spring. She's a pet birdy, not a breeder, and although she does tend to sit on her eggs, she sooks and sulks and is generally miserable about it. I've gotten around this by giving her an open box to lay in rather than a closed nesting box.

What this does is encourages her to come out of the box and hang out with us a bit more - so she's not stuck in a dark box all day and all night, coming out only to poo and eat. Not much fun.

Hence the open box. There are very clear rules about the box - D and I both avoid putting our hands in the cage or going too close to the nesting box while there are eggs in there, and Phoebs seems to trust us both with that, so she seems content to lay her eggs in there and just wander back to them intermittently.

She seems quite happy with the arrangement, and although she does sleep on them at night, she spends the day running around with us and playing and cuddling and chirping - so, business as usual, except that there are several cute little ovoid thingies that she occasionally waddles back to, rolls around with her beak, but mostly forgets about.

Awwww, so cute!

Wah! But Yay!

...I'm a little bit in shock: I sold the ouroboros piece in the exhibition! LOL... the problem (the wah factor) is that I didn't get a finished photo of it. What a bummer. But... I sold it! Woot! I'm *very* excited - it's been many years since I sold any calligraphy at all, and probably the first thing I've ever sold that I didn't feel was horrendously underpriced.

Precopperplate_001 Precopperplate_003 This afternoon I went to a CCS workshop for precopperplate italic today, run by Gemma Black. Pretty good fun, though it's hard to fit much into 3 hours. The first pic is a couple of examples of the script, the 2nd is my writing at the top and Gemma's at the bottom. Once I can convince my fingers that I'm not doing bookhand or chancery cursive, I might be ok with it.

It was hot. Which is never good for calligraphy because sweat is baaaaad for writingness. But! My good fortune continued: I won the raffle for the day, which was this gorgeous Calligrapher's Calendar, produced by WA Society of Calligraphers. Yummm. And now I'm at home, slurping on a beer, with thunder rolling in the distance. Yay.

Floweringsucculents Mmm. My succulents are flowering. Aren't they purty? I think I need to turn them around - they're all leaning toward the rising sun :)

Life, birth, and death

Big big thanks to all of those people who sms'd me back sooperfast and gave me these 3 words in other languages. These are the 1st progress photos of the piece - it's finished but I forgot to take the final photo in my rush to get it to the exhibition!

Stoopidest thing I heard all week

Stoopidest thing I heard anyone say this week (it was on the radio):

"Yeah, being on stage was like losing my virginity for the first time."

...zomg! You can lose it more than once?

Young Christians will be so pleased. *snort*

Shoes. Of all things, SHOES...

I'm not usually the sort of girl that gets all excited about shoes. Really I'm not. Well, I might get a little bit excited when I pick up seriously lush boots at the op shop for $30, or cute chunkus shoesies for $4; both cause for much excitement, but more about the bargain itself than the shoes.

But I have to say, I nearly WET myself with the glorious glee of discovery when I found this website...

www.fluevog.com

Oh. Yum. Yummmmm. *drool* *twitch* *want* *lusssssst*

Go there, lose yourself. My credit card is cringing with fear and dread already. Muhahaha!

They have one distributor in Australia, a shop in Melbourne called Sole Devotion. Apparently their website is due to go live some time in the next month. And they do mail order. They are even cool with people doing paper-tracings of their feet to get the size right. Eeeek!

Mmmmmmmmmm.
